2 Full-Time Summer Employment Opportunities with the Ehrman Group: Microelectronics Materials and Green Chemistry

Two undergraduate research positions are available starting May 2008 in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Profossor Sheryl Ehrman's lab. We are looking for two students: a mechanical engineering student who has completed ENME 350: Electronics and Instrumentation I and a chemical engineer who has completed ENCH 215: Chemical Engineering Analysis. Other requirements are: minimum overall GPA = 2.90, interest in hands on laboratory work, interest in research, both academic and industrial, and good teamwork and time management skills.

The project is a joint collaboration between the University and a large company, with funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation. The main goal is to develop a process to make metal powders for microelectronics applications, applying green chemistry concepts. The positions would begin in May (either before or after finals—we're flexible), with full time employment in summer, and may continue into the next academic year on a part time basis. If you are interested, please send your resume to Professor Ehrman by e-mail (sehrman@umd.edu) by March 25th. Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Programs

NSF-Funded University of Connecticut Department of Chemistry REU Program

Deadline: March 31, 2008

The Chemistry Department at the University of Connecticut is hosting its 10th NSF-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program, scheduled for June 2 to August 9, 2008.

The University of Connecticut has a strong tradition of providing research experience for its own undergraduates.  The National Science Foundation is helping us expand this offering to chemistry majors from primarily undergraduate institutions. Not only will students have the opportunity to conduct research in top-flight academic laboratories, they will be paid to do so! A wide cross-section of our faculty has designed exciting independent research projects especially for this program. The students will receive a stipend of $4,000 for the ten-week program. In addition, room, round-trip transportation and partial board are also provided.

UConn Chem REU students have an outstanding track-record of presenting their research findings at national ACS meetings and also publishing in peer-reviewed journals. These students have also been successful in their application to the most competitive graduate programs in the country.

  • Visit bruckner.chem.uconn.edu/WebREU/start.html for more information on individual research projects, application forms, lists of our previous participants, pictures, and more.
  • Applications will be accepted through March 31, 2008.
