Subramanian Wins Gordon Research Conference Travel Award

Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering graduate student Deepa Subramanian won a travel award to attend the Gordon Research Conference on Colloid, Macromolecular, and Polyelectrolyte Solutions, held in Santa Barbara, Ca. in February 2012.

Subramanian, a member of ChBE professor Mikhail Anisimov's research group, was invited to present a poster titled "Mesoscale Inhomogeneities in Aqueous Solutions of Small Molecules," which described her work in advancing our understanding of the mesoscopic properties of aqueous solutions of small nonelectrolyte molecules.

Gordon Research Conferences focus on the latest work by young scientists, particularly graduate students and postdocs, maximizing interaction between attendees and fostering networking.

"It was my first time at [a Gordon Research] conference and it was a great experience," says Subramanian. "Their long discussion sessions were most helpful. It was also a small conference, about 180 people, so I got a chance to talk with many other students and scientists from various universities."
