Kyu Yong Choi Receives Poole & Kent Award for Senior Faculty Members

Kyu Yong Choi, a professor in the University of Maryland (UMD) Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE), is the 2018 recipient of the Poole and Kent Teaching Award for Senior Faculty.  This award, granted by the A. James Clark School of Engineering, is given to faculty members for excellence in teaching.

Choi, originally from South Korea, received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, prior to joining the UMD faculty in 1984. He is a Maryland Nanocenter and Maryland Engergy Innovation Institute affiliate whose research interests are geared towards solving problems related to industrial polymerization processes and technology.

Choi has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and recieved several awards during his tenure. He is also a fellow of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology. 

The college will honor Prof Choi at the spring commencement exercises on May 21.
