The Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering Society (ChEBES)

ChEBES, the Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering Society, was founded to create a community for graduate students in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the Fischell Department of Bioengineering.  It offers a variety of social, academic, and career development events throughout the year.  ChEBES is advised by Professor Nam Sun Wang, and currently has about 50 members.

ChEBES gets students out of the lab and involved in activities both on- and off-campus.  Social events include potlucks, barbeques, dinners to welcome first-year graduate students, bowling, and road trips, from sightseeing in Washington, D.C. to skiing at the regional slopes.  Funds used to subsidize these activities and events are raised selling concessions at our exciting Maryland Terrapins basketball and football games.

Academic, career-building and professional activities include attending the annual AIChE conference, hosting ResearchFest (an annual symposium), and manning a hands-on experiments table for kids on Maryland Day. 

ChEBES' goal is to build community, connections and friendships among students (especially those who find themselves working off-campus at facilities such as the NIH or NIST), parent societies such as the GSG (Graduate Student Government) and the EGSC (Engineering Graduate Student Council), and alumni.

Becoming a member is easy!  Simply drop by the ChEBES Lounge (Room 2126, Chemical and Nuclear Engineering Building) to sign up. Membership dues are only $5!
