Students interested in applying to the program must apply online at the University of Maryland Graduate School web site. Official transcripts should be submitted to the following address:

Enrollment Services Office
Graduate Admissions
Mitchell Building
University of Maryland
College Park, MD 20742

Letters of recommendation must be submitted online beginning with applications for Fall 2006 admission. You will receive email instructions on how to submit online recommendation letters once you have completed the online application. You will also receive instructions on how to check the status of your application online. Due to the volume of applications, this online method for checking the status of your application is strongly encouraged.

Students with a strong undergraduate background in Chemical Engineering are encouraged to apply for admission to our graduate program. A grade point average of at least 3.0/4.0 is generally required for admission but most applicants accepted into the program have averages well above 3.0.

Entrance Exams

All applicants must take the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) Aptitude Test. It is recommended, although not required, that applicants for financial assistance also take the GRE Advanced Engineering Test. For information on these examinations write to Graduate Record Examinations, Box 955, Princeton, NJ 08540, USA.

Foreign students, whose native language is not English, must also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 550 is required for unconditional admission. For information on the test write to TOEFL, Box 899, Princeton, NJ 08540, USA. Because the reporting of GRE and TOEFL scores may be several months after the tests are taken, applicants are advised to arrange to take these tests well in advance of the application deadlines that are mentioned below.

Deadlines

The application deadlines for all prospective graduate students are January 15 for admission to the Fall semester and June 1 for admission to the Spring semester. These deadlines are determined by the Department and are for "best-consideration;" typically, the Graduate Admissions Committee begins reviewing Fall applications on January 15th and begins making offers of admission soon after that. Applicants should be aware that these deadlines may differ from those published in the graduate catalog.

Visa Information

Any questions on visa requirements should be addressed to the Director, International Education Services, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742, USA. Additional information can be found at the IES website.
