STUDENTS: Looking for more help or additional opportunities?
These listings—sent directly to us by friends of the Department—represent only a small selection of jobs and research opportunities available.
For dedicated help in finding internships and jobs, visit the Clark School's office of Engineering Co-op & Career Services, which gives students 24-hour access to engineering co-op, internship, summer, post-graduation, and part-time job listings via eLink. It also runs free resume clinics, career fairs, and other workshops for job seekers! Visit them online at www.coop.eng.umd.edu, e-mail co-op@eng.umd.edu, or call (301) 405-3863 for more information. Research Opportunities
Rowland Junior Fellowships
The Rowland Institute
Harvard University
Posted 10/21/09
Deadline to apply: 11/30/09
Rowland Junior Fellows are young experimentalists who have the
opportunity to perform independent research under ideal conditions: a five year term, full salary, funding for start-up, operation, and a postdoc, help from technicians, and, best of all, full access to the Rowland Institute's shops and services.
These Fellows are unusual people, with both good ideas and good hands. They are selected for their scientific achievement, their creativity, their resourcefulness as experimentalists and their ability to work independently.
The Institute is soliciting applications in all of the natural sciences and engineering, with special attention to interdisciplinary research and the development of new instrumental methods. We expect to take two more Fellows next year. Although we put no hard restriction on prior experience or career path, the program is aimed at fresh Ph.D's or postdocs with up to two years experience.
Questions on the program should be directed to rjf@rowland.harvard.edu. Further information about the Rowland Institute can be found at www.rowland.harvard.edu.
Postdoctoral Positions
Postdoctoral Research Associate
University of Maryland, College Park, MD
Posted 10/21/09
Deadline to apply: 11/21/09
Postdoctoral research associate positions are available immediately to study the metabolic, regulatory and signaling pathways and networks that regulate nitrogen (N) storage and cycling in Poplar. This project is funded by the Plant Genome Research Program of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and will obtain and integrate data from genomic, proteomic and metabolic flux studies to identify and functionally test candidate genes and transcription factors that regulate N storage and cycling. The postdoctoral associates will be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Dr. Gary D. Coleman (Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture), Dr. Ganesh Sriram (Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering), Dr. Jianhua Zhu (Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture), and Dr. George Ude (Bowie State University) and will contribute to both the research aims of the project as well as outreach and educational activities.
Requirements: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in biology, engineering or a related field demonstrated expertise in one or more of the areas of functional genomics, proteomics, metabolic flux or pathway analysis, metabolomics, systems biology and/or computational biologyp
Interested applicants should send via email a cover letter detailing experience, CV, and names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of three references to Dr. Gary D. Coleman at gcoleman@umd.edu.
Minorities and Women are Encouraged to Apply. The University of Maryland is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
