Greetings Members of the National Capital Section AIChE:
As past chair of the NCS AIChE, my chief duty is to prepare a list of candidates who will stand for election to replace outgoing officers and members of the executive committee.
At this time I have two candidates for director, two candidates for secretary and one candidate for treasurer. For a full ballot I need two candidates for vice chair and one more candidate for treasurer.
Thus far I have approached NCS members who have been and are active in the local section to stand for election to no avail. Further, I have contacted some members who were in leadership roles in the past to see if they would like to have a "retread" on the NCS executive committee. No success there either.
My current approach, then, is to appeal to the "silent majority" of NCS members one last time to find folks who are willing to take up the challenge and volunteer to stand for election. Yes, the vice chair is a key position as the person who holds that job is also the chair of the program committee.
Several past chairs of NCS (I am one!) are willing to help with meeting programming so the vice chair does not have to do all the work alone.
Should this appeal fail I am concerned that the National Capital Local Section of AIChE will become inactive by the end of 2004.
