Chester Clark, past chair of the NCS, is serving as nominating committee
chair for this year's election. His contacts with the NCS membership have
resulted in two candidates for the office of Secretary and one candidate for
Director. Two candidates are needed for the office of Vice Chair and two
candidates are needed for the office of Treasurer.
It is the usual practice to draft young AIChE members into some committee
service before asking them to stand for election for the leadership offices
of the NCS. The nominating committee must bypass that custom this year and
make an urgent appeal to the young members of the NCS to step forward and
agree to stand for election for the leadership offices of the section. Be
assured that you will have plenty of help from past leadership in the
discharge your duties should you be elected.
What are the consequences of failure in our quest? The NCS would teeter on
the brink of dormancy. A vigorous local section must have new ideas and
fresh enthusiasm to continue serving its membership. It would be a deep rut
that the section would fall into if we have only holdover members of the NCS
Executive Committee to provide leadership for the 2002-03 season.
Please give this notice your serious consideration and call any of the three
of us if you wish more discussion on what is involved when one serves on the
Executive Committee. If you agree to stand for one of the open elective
offices, please contact Chester Clark directly.
The local section belongs to ALL members of the section. Its survival
depends upon members willing to take on the responsibility of active
participation in its activities.
Footnote: While this note makes an appeal to the younger members of the
NCS, be assured that any volunteers from the ranks of our mid-career members
and/or our senior members will be more than welcome too!
