    Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As was recently announced, the Mid-Atlantic Meeting on
Thermodynamics-"Thermo-2002" will be held on April 19-20
(Friday-Saturday) in College Park, Maryland. "Thermo-2002" will be
arranged in honor of the 70th birthday of Jan V. Sengers, Distinguished
University Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland. The sessions
and the banquet with a preceding recital (Friday, April 19) will take place
in the Inn and Conference Center (UMCP Campus).

The scientific program will include invited lectures (40 minutes including
discussion), oral talks - one oral talk (20 minutes) from each research
group upon a professor's selection, and posters.

The list of invited speakers includes:

Michael Fisher (University of Maryland, College Park)
Sandra Greer (University of Maryland, College Park)
Carol Hall (North Carolina State University)
    Erdogan Kiran (Virginia Tech)
    Michael Moldover (NIST)
    Athanassios Panagiotopoulos (Princeton University)
    Stanley Sandler (University of Delaware)
    Eugene Stanley (Boston University)
    Benjamin Widom (Cornell University)

We will arrange a convenient accommodation for you in the Conference Inn
($120 a night) and in a College Park hotel (probably, in the Quality Inn,
$80 a night) in a walking distance to the Campus and to the College Park
    Metro Station.

As I told you, in accordance with the tradition of Mid-Atlantic Meetings on
Thermodynamics, we will try to make "Thermodynamics-2002" as inexpensive as
possible. The registration fee will not be required, however, the expenses
related to transportation, lodging, banquet, and meals will be the
participants' responsibility. In some special cases, we will try to get some
funds for lodging. Please contact me directly, if necessary, on this issue.

    Deadlines:

February 4 - submission of oral and poster presentations (title, authors,
short abstract), submission of requests for accommodation.
February 25 - list of participants, list of oral talks.
March 25 - scientific and social programs, accommodations.
