    The National Capital Section of the AIChE has scheduled a dinner meeting on
    May 31th 2001. The invited guest speaker is Dr. Martin Wikelski from Princeton
    University.

    ABSTRACT:
    Dr. Wikelski will be speaking about Ecuador's role in Evolutionary Theory.
    He will be placing emphasis on The Galapagos Islands and The Shrinking of
    the Marine Iguana.

    SPEAKER:
    Dr. Martin Wikelski is an assistant professor at Princeton University in the
    Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. A native of Germany, he
    started to work in Galapagos in 1987 through the Max Planck Society. As a
    fellow of the Humboldt Society and the Smithsonian Tropical Research
    Institute, Dr. Wikelski also conducted fieldwork on birds in Panamanian
    rainforests. He held previous assignments at the Universities of
    Washington (Seattle) and Illinois (Urbana). His main interest is to
    understand the diversity of life forms from an eco-physiological
    perspective.
     
    MEETING TIME/LOCATION:
    This dinner meeting will be held on May 31st at The Embassy of Ecuador in
    Washington, DC (see map and directions). The Embassy is located at
    2535 15th Street NW. Cocktails begin at 6 pm followed by dinner at 6:30 PM.

    The speaker's presentation will commence at 8:00 PM.

    MENU/RESERVATIONS:
    The dinner will cost $35.00 per person. The menu consists of the following:

    APPETIZER:
    1. Shrimp Ceviche

    SALAD:
    1. Capers Salad
    2. Black Bean Salad
    3. Exotic Salad

    ENTREE:
    1. Hornado - Ecuador's main dish for festivities. Slow roasted pork shoulder
    served with "agrio" sauce and a choice or garnishes.
    2. Humitas - A favorite vegetarian delicacy in Latin American.
    3. Llapingachos - Mashed potato cakes with cheese filling. A popular dish
    from the Highlands.

    DESSERT:
    1. Quesadillas
    2. Cocadas
    3. Moncaibas

    Traditional pastries and sweets from Ecuador.

    1. Coffee

    FESTIVE NCS EVENT PLANNED:
    By popular demand, the NCS membership indicated (via the web-based survey)
    a strong interest in visiting a local winery. So, we offer a fun weekend
    event at the Breaux Vineyards on June 16, 2001, a Saturday. This is the
    4th Annual Cajun Festival at Breaux Vineyards, complete with authentic Cajun
    cuisine, music and dancing, as well as their award-winning wines. Celebrate
    the festivities on Patio Madeleine, or just take in the views of the
    mountains and vineyards. Vineyard staff will show you how to "laissez les
    bons temps rouler!" No reservation is required. Just show up between 11 am
    and 6 pm. The cost is $5.00/person, which includes a glass. Food will be
